Addiction

New Hope Recovery Center believes that addiction and alcoholism, much like other life threatening illnesses, are treatable diseases.  Our treatment center program provides education, counseling, and addiction treatment to better assist you and your family understand the nature of addiction.

Interventions:

An intervention may be necessary if an addict is in denial related to their addiction, has any reservations related to going into treatment or getting help, or is resistant to hearing what their families are saying.  Not being open to the idea of treatment is common with addicts so an intervention can help them see life in a new light and make them more receptive to the idea of getting help. There are times when the addict doesn’t take the help being offered and it might appear that the intervention was a failure.  The fact is that a dialogue has begun between all parties and change is inevitable as a result of that conversation.  While an intervention is not always necessary, it is life changing for all regardless of what the addict decides.

Alcoholism:

There are several stages of alcoholism, which is why we provide multiple levels of care for our clients.  The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM)  has defined alcoholism as: “… a primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. The disease is often progressive and fatal. It is characterized by continuous or periodic: impaired control over drinking, preoccupation with the drug alcohol, use of alcohol despite adverse consequences, and distortions in thinking, most notably denial.” Find out more information about alcoholism here.

Drug Addiction:

Brain changes that occur over time from drug use affect an addicted person’s self control, judgment and emotions and limit the ability to resist the intense impulses to take drugs.  Drug addiction is a complex disease as drugs change the brain in profound ways that then foster compulsive drug abuse.  Quitting can be difficult and requires more than will power alone. Process Addiction:

Addictions based on an activity or process – are becoming more prevalent in the addiction community. Process addictions include activities such as gambling, shopping, watching porn, sex/love, Internet surfing and eating disorders. New Hope Recovery Center provides treatment for process addictions during treatment because process addictions can develop while an individual is recovering from alcoholism or drug addiction.
